The first major overhaul of the Pennsylvania election code in more than 80 years, is now law! Act 77 of 2019 introduces changes to voter registration, absentee ballots and the voting process:

  • Voter registration:
    • Voters now have up to 15 days before an election to register to vote instead of 30 days.
  • Straight-party ticket voting:
    • Voters will not be able to vote straight party tickets anymore.
  • Absentee ballots:
    • Creates a new category of voters who may request and return a ballot by mail without having to provide an excuse.
    • Voters have up to 50 days before an election to request and submit their ballot by mail.
    • Voters who request a ballot by mail may return that ballot by mailing it or by dropping it off at their county election office.
    • Voters may also request a ballot in person at their county election office.
    • Voters may request to receive applications by mail automatically each year.
    • Voters may mail or hand-deliver their ballots until 8:00pm on Election Day.
